Psalms 75

The prophet praiseth God.

Psalms 75:1 {To the chaunter, Destroye not. A Psalme and songe of Asaph.} Unto þe (O God) do we geue thankes yee, vnto the do we geue thankes:

He promiseth to judge uprightly.

Psalms 75:2 thy name also is so nye, & that do thy wonderous worckes declare. Psalms 75:3 When I receaue the congregacion, I shall iudge accordynge vnto ryght.

He rebuketh the proud by consideration of God's providence.

Psalms 75:4 The earth is weake and all þe in habiters therof, I beare vp þe pyllers of it. Psalms 75:5 I sayde vnto the foles: deale not so madly, and to the vngodly: set not vp your horne. Psalms 75:6 Set not vp youre horne on hye, & speake not with a styfnecke. Psalms 75:7 For promocion commeth nether from the East, ner from the west, ner yet from þe south. Psalms 75:8 And why? God is the Iudge: he putteth downe one, and setteth vp another.

He praiseth God, and promiseth to execute justice.

Psalms 75:9 For in the hande of the Lord there is a cuppe, & þe wyne is redd, It is full mixte, & he poureth out of the same. As for the dregges therof, all þe vngodly of the earth shall drincke them, and sucke them out. Psalms 75:10 But I wyll talke of the God of Iacob, and prayse hym for euer. All the hornes of the vngodly also wyll I breake, and the hornes of the ryghteous shalbe exalted.
