2 Samuel 4
The Israelites being troubled at the death of Abner,
2 Samuel 4:1 When Sauls sonne hearde that Abner was deade in Hebron, hys handes faynted & all Israel was troubled.
Baanah and Rechab slay Ish-bosheth, and bring his head to Hebron.
2 Samuel 4:2 Nowe thys Sauls sonne had two men that were become captaynes ouer the soudyars, þe one called Baanah and the other Rechab, the sonnes of Remon a Berothite, and of þe chyldren of Beniamin: for Beroth was rekened to pertayne to Beniamin. 2 Samuel 4:3 And these Berothites fled to Gethaim and soiourned there vntil the same tyme. 2 Samuel 4:4 And Ionathas Sauls sonne had a sonne that was lame on hys fete: fyue yeare olde was he when the tydynges came of Saul and Ionathas out of Iesrahel. And hys nource toke hym vp and fled awaye. And as she made hast to flee and was amased, the chylde fell and became halte and was calleth Miphiboseth. 2 Samuel 4:5 And these sonnes of Remon the Berothite, Rechab and Baanah went, & came in the heat of the daye to the house of Isboseth as he slept on a bed at none. 2 Samuel 4:6 And behold they came into the house as thoughe they wold haue bought whete, & smote hym vnder þe short ribbes, and fled. 2 Samuel 4:7 For they came into the house as he slept on hys bed in hys restynge chamber, and smote hym, and slue hym, & beheaded hym, and toke hys head, and gat them away thorowe the wylde feldes al nyght. 2 Samuel 4:8 And they brought the head of Isboseth vnto Dauid to Hebron and sayde to the kynge: behold there the head of Isboseth Sauls sonne thyne enemye, whiche soughte thy soule. But the Lorde hath aduenged my Lorde the kynge this day, of Saule and of hys seede.
David causeth them to be slain, and Ish-bosheth's head to be buried.
2 Samuel 4:9 And Dauid aunswered Rechab and Baanah hys brother, the sonnes of Reman the Berothite, and sayde vnto them: as surelye as the Lorde lyueth whiche hath delyuered my soule out of all aduersites: 2 Samuel 4:10 hym that told me howe that Saul was dead, thynkyng to haue brought me good tydynges, I caught & slew in Zikeleg, to geue hym a rewarde for his tydynges bringing. 2 Samuel 4:11 And how much more ought I so to deale with weked men þt haue slayne a ryghtuouse person in hys owne house vpon hys bed. Now therfore thynke ye that I wyll not requyre hys bloude of youre handes and take you from the earth? 2 Samuel 4:12 And Dauid commaunded hys younge men, and they slue them and cut of theyr handes and theyr fete & hanged them vp by the pole in Hebron. And they toke the head of Isboseth, and buryed in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
