Esther, adventuring on the king's favour, obtaineth the grace of the golden sceptre, and inviteth the king and Haman to a banquet.
Esther 5:1 And on the thyrde daye put Esther on her royall apparell, & stode in the courte of the kynges palace within ouer agaynst þe kynges house. And the kinge sat vpon his royal seate in the kynges palace ouer agaynst the gate of the house. Esther 5:2 And when the Kyng sawe Esther the quene standynge in the courte, she founde grace in his sighte. And the kynge helde out the goulden scepter in his hand towarde Esther. So Esther stept forth, and touched the toppe of þe scepter. Esther 5:3 Then sayde the Kynge vnto her: What wylt thou quene Esther? and what requyrest thou? aske euen the halfe of the empyre, and it shalbe geuen the. Esther 5:4 Esther saide: Yf it please the Kynge, let the Kyng and Haman come this day vnto the bancket that I haue prepared. Esther 5:5 The Kyng sayd: cause Haman to make hast, that he may do, as Esther hath sayde. Now when the Kynge & Haman came to the bancket that Esther had prepared,

Esther 5:6 þe kyng said vnto Esther at þe bancket of wyne: Esther what is thy peticion? and it shalbe geuen the. And what requyrest thou? Yf it be euen the halfe of the empyre, it shalbe done. Esther 5:7 Then answered Esther & sayde: my peticyon & desyre is, Esther 5:8 yf I haue founde grace in the syght of the Kinge, & yf it please the kinge to geue me my petycion, and to fulfyll my request, then let the Kynge & Haman come to þe bancket, that I shall prepare for them, and so wil I do to morow as the kynge hath sayde.
Haman, proud of his advancement, repineth at the contempt of Mordecai.
Esther 5:9 Then wente Haman forthe the same daye ioyfull and mery in his mynde. And when he sawe Mardocheus in the kinges gate, that he stode not vp and kneled before him, he was ful of indygnacyon at Mardocheus. Esther 5:10 Neuertheles he refrayned him selfe, and when he came home, he sent, & called for his frendes and Zares hys wyfe, Esther 5:11 & tolde them of the glory of hys ryches, & the multitude of hys chyldren all together how the king had promoted him so greatly, and howe that he was taken aboue the princes and seruauntes of the kynge. Esther 5:12 Haman said moreouer: Ye, and Ehster the quene let no man come with the king vnto the bancket that she had prepared, except me, & to morowe am I bidden vnto her also with þe king. Esther 5:13 But in all this am I not satisfyed as longe as I se Mardocheus the Iewe syttynge at þe kynges gate.

Esther 5:14 Then sayde Zares hys wyfe & al hys frendes vnto hym: Let them make a galowes of fyfty cubytes hye, and to morow speake thou vnto the king that Mardocheus may be hanged theron, yf thou commest merely wyth the kynge vnto the bancket. Haman was well content wyth all, and caused a galowes to be prepared.
