The land of Israel is comforted, both by destruction of the heathen, who spitefully used it,
Ezekiel 36:1 Thou sonne of man, prophecie vpon the mountaynes of Israel, & speake: Heare the worde of þe Lorde, O ye mountaynes of Israell: Ezekiel 36:2 Thus sayeth the Lorde God: Because youre enemye hath sayde vpon you: A ha, the hye euerlastynge places are now become ours: Ezekiel 36:3 prophecye therfore, and speake: thus sayeth the Lorde God: Seynge ye be wasted & troden downe on euery syde, and become a possessyon vnto the resydue of the Gentyles, whych haue brought you in to mens mouthes & vnto an euell name amonge the people: Ezekiel 36:4 Therfore heare the worde of the Lorde God, O ye mountaynes of Israell: Thus sayeth the Lorde God vnto the mountaynes and hilles, valleys and dales, to the voyde wildernesses & desolat cytyes, whiche are spoyled, & had in derisyon on euery syde, amonge the resydue of the Heathen: Ezekiel 36:5 Yee euen thus sayeth the Lord God: In the fyre of my gelousy haue I take a deuyce, agaynst the resydue of the Gentiles, and agaynst all Edom which haue taken in my lande vnto them selues for a possession, which also reioysed from their whole herte with a dyspiteful stomacke to waste it, and to spoyle it. Ezekiel 36:6 Prophecy therfore vpon the lande of Israell, speake vnto the mountaynes and hilles to valleys and dales, thus sayeth the Lorde God: Beholde, this haue I deuysed in my gelousy and terrible wrath: For so moch as ye haue suffred reprofe of the Heathen, Ezekiel 36:7 therfore thus sayeth the Lorde God: I haue sworne, that the Gentyles which lye aboute you, shal beare youre confusyon them selues.
and by the blessings of God promised unto it.
Ezekiel 36:8 And as for you (O mountaynes of Israell) ye shall shute out your braunches, and brynge forth youre fruyte to my people of Israell, for it is hard by, that it wyll come. Ezekiel 36:9 Beholde, I come vnto you, and vnto you wyl I turne me, that ye maye be tylled and sowen. Ezekiel 36:10 I will sende you moch people, which shal be all of the house of Israel: the cyties shalbe inhabyted, & the decayed places shalbe repayred agayne. Ezekiel 36:11 I wyll prouyde you wt moch people and catell, whiche shall increase & brynge fruite. I wil restore you also to your old estat & shewe you more kindnes then euer ye had before: wherby ye shal knowe, that I am the Lorde. Ezekiel 36:12 Yee people wyll I sende vnto you (O my folcke of Israell) whych shall haue the in possessyon, & thou shalt be their inheritaunce so that thou shalt nomore be wythout them. Ezekiel 36:13 Agayne, thus sayeth the Lorde God: For so moch as they saye vnto you: thou art an eater vp of men, & a waster of thy people: Ezekiel 36:14 therfore thou shalt eate no mo men, nether destroye thy people eny more, sayeth the Lorde God. Ezekiel 36:15 And I wyll not suffre the, for to heare thyne owne confusyon amonge the Gentiles from henceforth. Thou shalt not beare the reprofe of the nacions, ner cast out thyne owne people enymore, sayeth the Lorde God.
Israel was rejected for their sin,
Ezekiel 36:16 Moreouer, the worde of the Lorde came vnto me, sayeng: Ezekiel 36:17 O thou sonne of man, when the house of Israell dwelt vpon their owne grounde they defyled them selues with their owne wayes and ymagynacyons: so that in my syght theyr waye was lyke the vnclennesse of a menstrous woman. Ezekiel 36:18 Wherfore I poured my wrathfull dyspleasure vpon them, because of the bloude that they had shed in the lande, and because of their Idoles, wherwith they had defyled them selues. Ezekiel 36:19 I scatred them also amonge the Heathen, so that they where strowed aboute in the landes. Accordinge to their wayes and after their owne inuencyons, so dyd I punysh them. Ezekiel 36:20 Now when they were gone vnto the Heathen, & come in amonge them they dyshonoured my holye name: so that it was sayde of them: Are these the people of God, & must go out of their owne lande?
and shall be restored without their desert.
Ezekiel 36:21 Then spared I my holy name, which the house of Israell had dishonoured amonge the Gentyles, to whom they came. Ezekiel 36:22 Therfore tell the house of Israell: Thus sayeth the Lord God: I do not this for youre sakes (O house of Israell) but for my holye names sake, whyche ye dyshonoured amonge the Heathen, when ye came to them. Ezekiel 36:23 Therfore, I wyll halowe my greate name agayne, which amonge the Gentiles is euell spoken of: for ye yourselues haue dishonoured it amonge them. And the Gentiles shal knowe that I am the Lord, when I am honoured in you before their eyes, sayeth the Lorde God. Ezekiel 36:24 As for you, I wyll take you from amonge the Heathen, and gather you together out of all countrees, and brynge you agayne into your owne lande.
The blessings of Christ's Kingdom.
Ezekiel 36:25 Then wyll I poure cleare water vpon you, & ye shalbe clene: yee from all your vnclennesse and from all your Idols shal I clense you. Ezekiel 36:26 A new herte also will I geue you, and a new sprete wyll I put into you: As for that stony herte, I wyll take it out of youre body, & geue you a fleshly herte. Ezekiel 36:27 I will geue my sprete amonge you, and cause you to walcke in my commaundementes, to kepe my lawes, and to fulfyll them. Ezekiel 36:28 And so ye shall dwell in the lande, that I gaue to youre forefathers, and ye shalbe my people, & I wilbe youre God. Ezekiel 36:29 I wyll helpe you out of all youre vnclennesse. I wyll call for the corne, & will increase it, & wyll let you haue no honger. Ezekiel 36:30 I wyll multiplye the fruites of the trees & the increase of the felde for you, so that ye shall beare no more reprofe of honger amonge the Heathen. Ezekiel 36:31 Then shall ye remembre your, owne wicked wayes, & youre ymagynacyons, whiche were not good: so that ye shall take displeasure at youre owne selues, by reason of youre synnes & abhominacyons. Ezekiel 36:32 But I wyll not do this for youre sakes (sayeth the Lorde God) be ye sure of it. Therfore, O ye house of Israell, be ashamed of your synnes. Ezekiel 36:33 Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lord God: what tyme as I shall clense you from all youre offences, then wyll I make the cytyes to be occupyed agayne, and wyll repayre the places þt be decayed. Ezekiel 36:34 The desolate lande shall be buylded agayne, whiche afore tyme laye waste in the sight of all them that wente by. Ezekiel 36:35 Then shall it be sayde: this waste lande is become lyke a garden of pleasure, & the voyde, desolate and broken downe cytyes, are now strong, and fensed agayne. Ezekiel 36:36 Then the resydue of the Heathen that lye rounde aboute you, shall knowe that I am the Lorde, whyche repayre that was broken downe, and plante agayne, that was made waste. Euen I the Lorde haue spoken it, and wyll do it in dede. Ezekiel 36:37 Thus sayeth the Lorde God: I wyll yet ones be found agayne of the house of Israel & do this for them: I shall increase them as a flocke of men. Ezekiel 36:38 Lyke as the holy flocke and þe flocke of Ierusalem are in the hye solempne feastes: so shall also the wylde wasted cyties be fylled with flockes of men: and they shall knowe that I am the Lorde.
