John 2

Christ turneth water into wine,

John 2:1 And þe thyrd day, was ther a Maryage in Cana a citie of Galile: & the mother of Iesus was ther. John 2:2 And Iesus was called also & his disciples vnto the mariage. John 2:3 And when the wyne fayled, the mother of Iesus sayde vnto him: they haue no wine. John 2:4 Iesus said vnto her: woman, what haue I to do with the? Myne houre is not yet come. John 2:5 His mother sayd vnto the mynisters: whatsoeuer he saith vnto you, do it. John 2:6 And ther were standing there, sixe water pots of stone after the maner of the puryfiyng of the Iewes containinge two or thre fyrkins a pece. John 2:7 And Iesus sayd vnto them: fill the waterpottes with water. And they filled them vp to þe bryme. John 2:8 And he sayd vnto them: drawe out now, & beare vnto þe gouerner of þe feaste. And they beare it. John 2:9 When the ruler of þe feaste had tasted the water þt was turned vnto wyne, & knew not whence it was (but the mynysters whyche drue the water, knewe) He called the brydegrome, John 2:10 and sayed vnto him: Al men at þe beginning, set forth good wine and when men be dronke, then that which is worsse. But thou hast kept back þe good wine vntil now. John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Iesus in Cana of Galile, and shewed his glory, & hys disciples beleued on him.

departeth into Capernaum, and to Jerusalem,

John 2:12 After that he descended into Capernaum, and his mother and his brethren, and his disciples: but continued not manye dayes there.

John 2:13 And the Iewes easter was euen at hande, & Iesus went vp to Ierusalem,

where he purgeth the Temple of buyers and sellers.

John 2:14 and founde syttinge in the temple those þt solde oxen & shepe and doues and chaungers of money. John 2:15 And he made a scourge of smal cordes: and draue them all out of the temple with the shepe and oxen, and poured out the chaungers money, and ouerthrue the tables, John 2:16 and sayd vnto them that solde doues: Haue these thinges hence & make not my fathers house an house of marchaundise. John 2:17 And his dyscyples remembred how that it was written: the zele of thyne house hath euen eaten me.

John 2:18 Then aunswered the Iewes & saied to him: what token shewest thou vnto vs, seyng that thou dost these thinges?

He foretelleth his death and resurrection.

John 2:19 Iesus aunswered and said vnto them: destroy thys temple & in thre dayes. I wyll reare it vp again. John 2:20 Then said the Iewes .xlvi. yeres was thys temple a buildynge, and wylt thou reare it vp in .iij. daies? John 2:21 But he spake of the temple of hys bodie. John 2:22 Assone therfore as he was risen from death agayne, his disciples remembred that he thus said. And they beleued the scrypture, and the wordes whyche Iesus had sayd.

Many believed because of his miracles, but he would not trust himself with them.

John 2:23 When he was at Ierusalem at easter in the feaste many beleued on his name, when they sawe his miracles which he dyd, John 2:24 but Iesus put not himself in their handes, because he knewe all men, John 2:25 and neded not that any man shuld testyfy of man. For he knew what was in man.
