Matthew Bible

Mark 8

Christ feedeth the people miraculously:

Mark 8:1 In those dayes when there was a very great company, and had nothinge to eate. Iesus called his disciples to hym and sayde vnto them: Mark 8:2 I haue compassion on this people, because they haue nowe bene with me thre dayes, and haue nothing to eate. Mark 8:3 And if I shoulde send them away fastynge to theyr owne houses, they should faynte by the waye. For diuers of them came from farre. Mark 8:4 And his disciples aunswered him: wher might a man haue bread here in the wildernes to satisfie these? Mark 8:5 And he asked them: how many loues haue ye? They sayde seuen. Mark 8:6 And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grounde. And he toke the seuen loues, gaue thankes, brake, & gaue to his disciples to set before them. And they did set them before the people. Mark 8:7 And they had a few small fishes. And he blessed them and commaunded them also to be set before them: Mark 8:8 And they ate and were suffised. And they toke vp of the broken meate that was left seuen baskettes full. Mark 8:9 And they that eate were in numbre about foure thousande. And he sent them awaye.

refuseth to give a sign to the Pharisees:

Mark 8:10 And anone he entered into a shyp with his disciples, and came into the partes of Dalmanutha. Mark 8:11 And the Phariseis came forth and began to despute with hym, sekynge of him a signe from heauen, & tempting him. Mark 8:12 And he syghed in his spirite and sayed: why doeth this generacion seke a signe. Verely I saye vnto you, there shal no signe be geuen vnto this generation. Mark 8:13 And he left them and went into the shyp agayne, and departed ouer the water.

admonisheth his disciples to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod:

Mark 8:14 And they had forgotten to take bread with them, neyther had they in the shyp with them more then one lofe. Mark 8:15 And he charged them sayng: Take hede of the leuen of the Phariseis, & of the leuen of Herode. Mark 8:16 And they reasoned among them selues saying: we haue no bread. Mark 8:17 And when Iesus knew that, he sayd vnto them: why take ye thought because ye haue no bread perceyue ye not yet, neyther vnderstande? Haue ye your hertes yet blynded? Mark 8:18 Haue ye eyes and se not? and haue ye eares and heare not? Do ye not remember? Mark 8:19 When I brake .v. loues among .v.M. How many baskettes ful of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde vnto him twelue. Mark 8:20 When I brake seuen among .iiij. thousande. How many baskettes of the leuynges of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde, seuen. Mark 8:21 And he sayde vnto them: How is it that ye vnderstande not?

giveth a blind man his sight:

Mark 8:22 And he came to Bethsaida, & they brought a blynde man vnto him, and desired him to touche him. Mark 8:23 And he caughte the blynde by the hande, and leade hym out of the toune, & spat in his eyes, and put his handes vpon him, & axed hym whyther he saw oughte. Mark 8:24 And he loked vp and sayde: I se the men: for I se them walke, as they were trees. Mark 8:25 After that he put his handes agayne vpon his eyes, and made hym se. And he was restored to hys sight: and saw euery man clerely. Mark 8:26 And he sent him home to his house saying: neyther go into the town, nor tell it to any in the towne.

acknowledgeth that he is the Christ, who should suffer and rise again:

Mark 8:27 And Iesus went out and his disciples into the townes that longe to the cytye called Cesarea Philippi. And by the way he axed hys disciples saying: whom do men say that I am? Mark 8:28 And they aunswered: some say that thou arte Ihon Baptist: some say Helias: and some, one of the Prophetes. Mark 8:29 And he sayde vnto them: But whome saye ye that I am? Peter aunswered and sayd vnto hym: Thou art very Christ Mark 8:30 And he charged them: that they should tel no man of him. Mark 8:31 And he began to teache them: howe that the sonne of man must suffer many thinges, and should be reproued of the elders and of the priestes and scribes, and be killed, and after thre dayes ryse agayne. Mark 8:32 And he spake þt saying openly. And Peter toke him a syde, & beganne to chyde him. Mark 8:33 Then he tourned about, and loked on his disciples and rebuked Peter saying: Go after me Sathan. For thou sauerest not the thynges of God, but the thynges of men.

and exhorteth to patience in persecution for the profession of the Gospel.

Mark 8:34 And he called the people vnto hym, wyth his disciples also, and sayde vnto them: Whosoeuer will folowe me, let hym forsake hym self, and take vp his crosse and folow me. Mark 8:35 For whosoeuer wil saue his lyfe. shall lowse it. But whosoeuer shal lowse his life for my sake and the gospels: the same shall saue it. Mark 8:36 What shall it profite a man, if he shoulde wynne all the worlde, and lowse his owne soule? Mark 8:37 or els what shall a man geue, to redeme his soule agayne? Mark 8:38 Whosoeuer therfore shalbe ashamed of me and of my wordes, among this aduouterous and synfull generacion, of hym shall the sonne of man be ashamed when he cometh in the glory of hys father with the holy aungels.
