Psalms 72

David, praying for Solomon, sheweth the goodness and glory of his, in type, and in truth, of Christ's Kingdom.

Psalms 72:1 {Of Salomon.} Geue the king thy iudgement, O God, and thy righteousnesse vnto the kynges sonne. Psalms 72:2 That he maye gouerne thy people accordynge vnto ryght and defende thy poore. Psalms 72:3 That the mountaynes maye brynge peace, and the litle hylles righteousnesse vnto the people. Psalms 72:4 He shall kepe the symple folke by theyr ryght, defende the chyldren of the poore, and punish the wronge doer. Psalms 72:5 Thou shalt be feared as longe as þe sunne and moone endureth, from one generacyon to another. Psalms 72:6 He shall come doune lyke the rayne into a fleise of wolle, & like the droppes that water the earth. Psalms 72:7 In hys tyme shall righteousnesse florysh, yea, and aboundaunce of peace, so longe as the moone endureth. Psalms 72:8 Hys dominion shalbe from the one sea to the other, & from the floud vnto the worldes ende. Psalms 72:9 They that dwell in the wyldernes shall knele before him, & his enemyes shal licke the dust. Psalms 72:10 The kynges of the sea & of the Iles shall bringe presentes, the kynges of Araby and Saba shall offre gyftes. Psalms 72:11 All kynges shall worshyppe hym, and all Heathen shall do hym seruyce. Psalms 72:12 For he shall delyuer the poore when he cryeth, and the neady that hath no helpe. Psalms 72:13 He shalbe fauorable to þe simple & poore, he shall preserue the soules of suche as be in aduersitie. Psalms 72:14 He shall delyuer their soules from extorcyon and wrong, and deere shall their bloud be in hys sight. Psalms 72:15 He shall lyue, and vnto hym shalbe geuen of the golde of Arabia: Prayer shalbe made euer vnto hym, and daylye shall he be praysed. Psalms 72:16 There shalbe an heape of corne in þe earth hye vpon the hilles, his frute shal shake like Libanus, and shalbe grene in the cytye, lyke grasse vpon the earth. Psalms 72:17 Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym.

He blesseth God.

Psalms 72:18 Blessed be the Lorde God, euen the God of Israell, whiche onely doeth wonderous thinges. Psalms 72:19 And blessed be the name of his maiesty for euer, and al landes be fulfilled with his glory. Amen, Amen. Psalms 72:20 Here ende the prayers of Dauid the sonne of Iesse.
