Psalms 118

An exhortation to praise God for his mercy.

Psalms 118:1 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: because his mercy [endureth] forever. Psalms 118:2 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Let Israel now say, that his mercy [endureth] forever. Psalms 118:3 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy [endureth] forever. Psalms 118:4 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy [endureth] forever.

The psalmist by his experience sheweth how good it is to trust in God.

Psalms 118:5 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, [and set me] in a large place. Psalms 118:6 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The LORD [is] on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Psalms 118:7 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see [my desire] upon them that hate me. Psalms 118:8 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} [It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118:9 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} [It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Psalms 118:10 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. Psalms 118:11 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. Psalms 118:12 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. Psalms 118:13 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. Psalms 118:14 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The LORD [is] my strength and song, and is become my salvation. Psalms 118:15 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The voice of rejoicing and salvation [is] in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. Psalms 118:16 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. Psalms 118:17 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. Psalms 118:18 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

Under the type of the psalmist the coming of Christ in his Kingdom is expressed.

Psalms 118:19 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, [and] I will praise the LORD: Psalms 118:20 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter. Psalms 118:21 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. Psalms 118:22 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} The stone [which] the builders refused is become the head [stone] of the corner. Psalms 118:23 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} This is the LORD's doing; it [is] marvelous in our eyes. Psalms 118:24 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:25 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Psalms 118:26 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Blessed [be] he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. Psalms 118:27 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} God [is] the LORD, which hath showed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, [even] unto the horns of the altar. Psalms 118:28 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} Thou [art] my God, and I will praise thee: [thou art] my God, I will exalt thee. Psalms 118:29 {not in Tyndale; KJV:} O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] forever.
